Frequently asked questions
How does Cosmelan work?
Cosmelan employs a unique two-fold approach to address and reduce pigmentation: corrective and regulatory.
In the corrective phase, Cosmelan accelerates the turnover of surface skin cells, diminishing melanin buildup and reducing the intensity of pigmented spots.
The regulatory phase of Cosmelan targets the source of pigmentation by decreasing melanin synthesis and inhibiting the transfer of melanin from deeper skin layers to the surface.
Cosmelan treatment is suitable for the face, neck, chest, and hands, offering a safe and effective solution that can be administered in the comfort of your own home. It's the most effective answer for hyperpigmentation. Schedule your appointment today and achieve the skin you've always desired!

What is involved in the Cosmelan process?
Here's the breakdown of the Cosmelan treatment process:
Preparation (4 weeks): You'll begin by incorporating the Brightening Peel Booster into your daily skincare routine for four weeks.
Treatment Day (Mask on for 8-12 hours): The cosmelan® mask will be expertly applied by your Cosmetic Couture dermal technician in-clinic. It will need to remain on your skin for 8-12 hours before you can remove it at home. Take this time to relax and let cosmelan work its magic.
Aftercare (6 months): Following your in-clinic treatment, you'll embark on a comprehensive aftercare plan to ensure the best results for your skin. Your dermal technician will discuss this detailed plan during your consultation and provide it to you for your reference.
What can I expect during my treatment?
Here's what you can expect during the Cosmelan treatment:
- Skin Preparation: Your skin will be prepared with an oil-removing solution to ensure the even penetration of the peel. During this stage, you may experience some tingling, and there will be a distinct odor.
- Mask Application: The thick, clay-colored cosmelan mask will be applied during your in-clinic session. It needs to be left on at home for 8-12 hours, the specific duration depending on your Fitzpatrick skin type and condition. While the mask is on, you'll need to use a non-active water mist to keep the product moist (not wet) to prevent it from drying out. This mist can typically be purchased at most chemists.
- Mask Removal: After the recommended time, you will gently remove the mask at home using room temperature water and fibrella wipes, which will be provided by the clinic. Following mask removal, a small amount of melan recovery is to be applied and allowed to dry before bedtime.
- Immediate Aftercare: Expect moderate erythema (redness) and a sensation of heat immediately after removing the mask at home.
This aftercare process is a crucial part of the Cosmelan treatment, ensuring the best results for your skin.
